I love this place a lot, and the coaches/professors are very kind and helpful, as well as the receptionists/managers. I have been going to Verde Valley Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for 2 and a half years, but I have been doing Jiu Jitsu for almost 5 years as of 2025.

I have greatly enjoyed my experience at VVBJJ. Learning Muay Thai here has been a challenging yet rewarding journey. Coach Jimmy, Jess, and Clay bring immense knowledge and expertise to each class I have had the privilege to take. I can feel myself gaining strength and excitement to do more with each class.

Seeing my husband and son involved in the studio for years, it feels amazing to now understand firsthand the powerful combination of strengthening both body and mind while building a supportive community. My gratitude for VVBJJ is profound, and I look forward to continuing this enriching experience.

It can be quite intimidating walking into a martial arts school due to all of the unknowns. After all, you'll be rolling around on the floor getting put into and putting others into often uncomfortable positions with people you don't know. But I'm a firm believer that you get out of something what you put into it, so I took the chance. VVBJJ was a welcoming environment right out of the gate day 1. There are still uncomfortable positions, don't get me wrong, but that's how you learn. The coaches as well as the attendees show genuine interest in the sport, and go above and beyond to help me get better day after day. And that's all I can ask for, that's what keeps me going back.

I attended open mat here one weekend. Everyone was very hospitable, helpful and ready to help you get better. Professor Clay is one of the best. Very humble, knowledgeable and ready to teach. Although he is an experienced black belt, he sparred with me and let me try new things while also showing me where I was making mistakes. I highly recommend this academy.

I've trained for nearly a year before checking out this gym. As a woman, I was nervous to check it out. The staff was phenomenal and kind. I was super impressed with the dynamic style of the fundamentals beginner's class and welcoming nature of James, the coach. I had fun and learned some great positions to defend from. I cant wait to go back.

I just had my first classes tonight and I was very impressed with how well Clay explained the basics and the fine tuned methods and details. I trained for 5 years, but stopped in 2012 due to injury. I've trained in gyms all over the west coast. Not only is his instruction precise and world class, but it's easy to understand. Another thing that impressed me was how welcoming, helpful, eager to learn, and generally kind everyone was at the 2 classes. I am looking forward to this new chapter and journey in my life. It literally soothes the soul.

Fantastic school. I've been learning Jiu Jitsu for about 2 years now (on and off at different schools). This is my favorite school. Clay the instructor is amazing at showing the techniques and explaining the purpose of each detail. Now they have another instructor for the next few months. This guy is so many levels beyond everyone else... He was explaining some basic, beginner move to a packed room and his technique was so refined, went into such detail, that he made the black belts gasp with realizations.
There are folks from all walks of life here and everyone is very welcoming.

This is a wonderful school … we are very fortunate to have a world class facility of this caliber here in the Verde Valley. The instructors, staff, and even students have been very welcoming and inclusive of me as a brand new student. When you’re new to BJJ it can be a bit intimidating and even overwhelming at first … this quickly evaporated as everyone went out of their way to help. It’s been a very fun experience and looking to learn a lot more from a great group of people! Highly recommend if you are interested in learning jiu jitsu. I should also mention the school has a lot of women and is very welcoming and supportive to everyone … martial arts can seem a bit aggressive in some schools. If you’re curious come take a ferry trial class and hopefully you will have as great of an experience here as I’ve had the last few weeks! Thanks to the whole VVBJJ team !
