The Lab is one of the most incredible training facilities I've ever encountered. It's truly world class.

What's Great:
-The Programming: It's really fantastic. It took me a few weeks to understand the phases and goals for each section. But it's fantastic.
-The facility: One of a kind.
-The data: I love that so much of The Lab focuses on quantified transformation.
-The People: there's no ego's here, nor is there a typical gym culture. It's about performance and outcomes.

Where Could Things Be Better:
-The Experience: Depending on the day/coach a group class can be quite active coaching or what equates to an open gym session with 0 coaching. That leads to a yo-yo of expectations.
-Onboarding: I signed up through Mind Body, but I really didn't understand what all I had access to etc. I've never been trained on various recovery that is available (red light, cryotherapy) and not even sure they are something I should take advantage of. It seems expected that the average adult should either a) know how/when to utilize these tools or b) take the initiative to ask. Also the messaging is a bit confusing. Is this a place for youth athletes, a destination for those seeking the best, or can a humble average golfer that lives in the area actually train here...I wasn't sure.

Overall:
I think The Lab is an amazing facility with excellent programming that is a hidden gem in the Monterey/Carmel area. I think there are some excellent people in the mix. I question if the mission is clear though. Is it a clubhouse for the owner and associates providing a service for sponsored athletes and friends/associates, or is this a place for those of us that don't want to train at home, are pursuing excellence as adults/amateur athletes and want to level up. Is this a destination for those searching for the best, is it a gym, is it golf specific or general training. Once they sort through this identity crisis, and find their "purpose for existing" I truly believe that The Lab in Monterey can rival facilities like Joey D, Gym Jones (vintage), Hansen Fitness for Golf, Fitness Performance Systems, The Golf Gym, or even IMG Academy Golf Club and be both a destination for athletes looking to level up and locals who want to perform at their best.
