The Groves Golf Course - Sarasota, Florida

I played The Groves golf course today for the first time in a long while. As a Meadows Country Club member I rarely play either of the public golf courses in The Meadows but today my group was on The Groves and we were all very pleasantly surprised! The Groves, an Arthur Hills designed gem of an executive course (par 65, 4211 yds) has always been a challenging track. But it is in the best condition I've ever seen it - the tee boxes were great, the fairways lush, and the greens, while very trick, rolled firm and true. I would say the Groves rivals the private members course in every way in terms of condition. I strongly recommend it.

Never played this course but I really enjoyed it, challenging holes, making you play true to your game. Course was in good shape, staff was absolutely above and beyond great and helpful! Looking forward to going back soon!!

Course is in boarderline condition. Many greens have weeds which is unacceptable since the greens were redone approximately 5 years ago. Tee boxes are in poor condition.

Great place to play golf in the perfect weather around christmas. Short and challenging course with a lot of mind gamling. It is one of the best golf courses in the Meadows if you want to Excel your golf skills, become better on every other course. Its rarely really crowded and the fee is very reasonable. I love this golf course and always Visit it when I fly in from Europé. It has made me a much better golfer. The staff is always helpful, one thing is that they know we live here so why so strict with community card all the time?

The Groves is a wonderful golf course that has a ton of personality, it provides an excellent playing experience for golfers of all skill levels. I highly recommend playing this very unique golf course in the heart of Sarasota.

Nice little course! I’ve been a casual golfer for over 20 years. I took my wife here for her first time golfing and it was perfect! It’s a short course from the whites, with many par 3s and just a couple par 5s. The course was in good shape and the greens rolled true. A few tough pins and sand was well kept. Water in play on many holes but you have room to find the fairway. If you are a scratch golfer or someone looking for a challenge, play their highlands course. But if you are new to the game, this is the place for you! We were able to get a tee time the day before. The people working the course were very friendly to us. They had a lady riding the course with drinks and snacks and you get a complimentary drink at the turn. If with my wife or another beginner I would play this course again!

Update from four years ago: Finally in good condition.

The greens were in very good condition. They were receptive and rolled true. (They were also fast with a lot of slopes which made some of them very difficult.)
Good fairways, traps, and GPS. Some tees were fair. Only cages for warm up. Got through 18 in three hours. Enjoyable and challenging short course.

BAD SHAPE!! A good number of the greens were in the worst shape that I have ever seen on a course. Beyond having dead areas, there were these divot-like holes that made it impossible to roll the ball straight! The grassy areas were super slow. Given the mild, sunny weather with occasional rain that we have had this winter, I have to believe that the staff either doesn't know what they are doing or that the management just doesn't want to put out the effort and money. Don't go there until things are fixed!

Golfed here yesterday Feb 7, 2024 with my dad and 9-year old son while on vacation in Florida. Needed rentals clubs. The pro-staff did a great job helping my son get the clubs that fit him. At the turn, we stopped in to ask if they had a smaller driver for him and they took him in the back and went through everything they had to find something that fit him. Class act!

Great course for the beginner as they had 4 sets of tees the day we went that were perfect for my son. Holes are short but challenging!

Pretty busy the day we went but it seems popular. Customer service was top notch, we will be back!
