Great family hike, even on a rainy day:) the trail can be a little muddy, but well worth the trip. There is even a playground at the start of the trail, so the kids can play after the hike!

Shoup Trail Park has the perfect blend of forest, grassland, and beach. The trail begins at the end of a road with a playground in the parking lot. Follow the trail through old growth cottonwood trees and a few scattered park benches. Eventually the trail opens up to tall beach grass. Continue further and you’ll arrive at the beach. At low tide, one can traverse the coast quite a way. Be careful to watch the tide table. I made the mistake of noticing it too late and waded up to my knees on my return back to the trail through the grass.

First 2 miles of the trail are in great condition. After that it greatly thins out and is much more of a goat trail. Very thick brush along trail and many signs of bear. Path can be water logged based on time of year. A very popular trail that takes you to Shoup Glacier. Beautiful ocean views when brush allows visibility.

This trail has great access to the beach. Take the second left when you come to the beach. We went out at low tide and it was absolutely gorgeous.

Stunning scenery. There is a stream crossing the path that blocks the rest off of pedestrians but if you want you can follow a small and difficult trail to the left and up the stream. It leads you right up to the very tall waterfall. Be cautious taking it though, you can slip easily and fall in. Bring a buddy or something if you want to go.

Also known as Shoup Bay Trail. Access to Gold Creek and Shoup Bay proper is difficult and at times impassible. A local non profit hauled in a lot of gravel for the first 1000 meters or so of trail but it was the easily traveled section to begin with. Hike out to the beach is an easy walk but be prepared to get your feet wet as trail maintenance through the marsh area has degraded. 5 stars for nice views but 1 star for trail maintenance and access.

Nice scenic trail with a short side trail out to the beach. One section was essentially under water, but we could get by on the side. A couple of areas were a little muddy, but nothing that would be too much of a problem with hiking boots.
