This was our first ballet class at the YMCA and we were blown away! Our two girls had so much fun learning the basics, dancing to their favorite Disney songs, and having so much fun with their friends! The two teachers, Ms. Hannah and Ms. Sammy made the class so comfortable, safe and fun! Their passion and love of dance was so contagious for the kids! I can’t recommend this class enough - we’ll definitely sign up again!

Such a great gym for a family. The childcare is wonderful and always staffed with great people. There are specific times, so be sure to check that out. The workout equipment is clean and works. Every so often something might be down. But rarely is it so full that I can't get the workout machine I want. I think every family in SLO should be a member. Also, it is incredibly affordable.

The SLO neighborhood YMCA is a gem in our community! From the moment you step inside, you can feel the welcoming and friendly atmosphere. The staff goes above and beyond to make you feel at home, always ready to assist with a smile.

The facilities are top-notch, offering a wide range of activities for individuals of all ages and fitness levels. Whether you want to hit the well-equipped gym, join a group exercise class (Power Yoga is my favorite), or shoot hoops on the basketball court, there is something for everyone.

What truly sets the YMCA apart is its commitment to community engagement. The variety of outreach programs and events they organize demonstrate their dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of local residents, including equal opportunity.

In summary, the local YMCA is a haven for wellness, fun, and community building. It is a joy to be a member and partake in the countless opportunities it offers.

One of the first things I did when I moved to SLO was join the SLO YMCA. And I'm so grateful I did because it has been such a wonderful experience and a nice community of people. The gym itself is very clean and the equipment is modern and always well maintained. They offer a wide variety of classes at convenient times. And the kids who attend the daycare always seem to be happy to go in and they look like they are having a great time! The staff is really what makes the Y such a positive experience. They always greet you with a smile - even if it's 6am in the morning (Jim is the best!) and they are there to help with anything you may need.
It's a comfortable and safe space for people of all levels of fitness. If you are looking for a great gym, I highly recommend the SLO YMCA.

I love this gym. I have been to almost every gym in SLO. The staff is incredibly friendly, the kids club attendants are simply the best, the facility is clean and I love that they have weight lifting racks, cages and all the other equipment I need.

The San Luis Obispo YMCA is my happy place. I work out there almost daily. The fitness equipment coupled with a friendly atmosphere has led me to not only stay fit but meet many nice people, a few of whom have become personal friends. One of the Y’s best attributes is its family friendly, judgement free atmosphere where you never have to worry about whether your wearing the right colors, the latest Lululemon clothing or if you had time to do your make-up before working out. For one price I not only have access to weight and cardio equipment, but my choice of many fitness classes and the Sinsheimer Pool. Staff is friendly, accessible and customer oriented.

Let me preface this by saying that I love the YMCA mission, and have been a member at another YMCA for my whole life. This is a lengthy review, but I think it needs to be posted and I hope other ladies avoid this gym until this man is gone. I travel frequently and occasionally use this gym to work out. Came by this afternoon for a day pass, planning to work out, shower after, and be on my way to a Saturday event; They let me know that they close at 5, rather than 6 as I thought. Oh, well, no harm no foul, I’ll just shower (rather than going all the way home to Los Osos) and work out another day instead. Boy did I have no idea what I was in for!

When I checked in, there was an older/slightly elderly man working at the counter, who I recognized from my previous workouts there. He’s always come across as a little loud and brash, but I never gave it another thought. About 10 min before close, he started coming by the shower room multiple times yelling that they were closing, and that I needed to come out. I understand going by once as a 5 min heads up, but this guy came by 4 times in a very short period aggressively demanding I exit before they were even closed yet and as a female, extremely vulnerable in the shower, this was starting to feel very weird, confusing, and a little unsafe. I started worrying that he was going to try to open the door. Not a good feeling.

When I came out at 5p on the dot, this man was standing outside of the door waiting for me! Yet another disconcerting and unnecessary tactic. At this point, I felt unsafe and had had enough. I moved away from him as quickly as I could, and said, “You know, you don’t need to keep hollering through the door, when I had responded that I heard you and you weren’t even closed yet. It’s not really appropriate.” This really set him off. As I was walking down the hall trying to leave, he FOLLOWED ME, wedging himself so that he was shoulder to shoulder with me, waving his index finger in my face, and shouting in my face about how he was completely in the right, and that what he was doing was totally appropriate and that he wanted me to leave. It was unreal and a little scary. He shouted a bunch of other things I don’t remember, because I was just trying to get out of there and away from this nutter. When I made it to the front desk, there was another person there so I stopped, banking on safety in numbers. I turned to the older man who had been yelling and following me, and said, “Sir, it is absolutely not okay to talk to someone like that, to shout or to act that way.” I started audio recording the conversation on my phone because I was so disturbed and I let him know that. This, combined with having his coworker there, seemed to provide some level of accountability as he stopped shouting and began agitatedly saying that they’ve had problems with people not coming out of the locker rooms, and then having to call the police. I said that’s totally understandable however, shouting, following someone, all of these other behaviors are not an appropriate way to treat someone, let alone a customer. His response was NOT to apologize, but to say that he’s only had a problem with me. What? ? At that point, I just asked for the manager’s contact information and said you know, all I can do at this point is contact them. He kept saying, “Do it! Please do!” like he knew that there would be zero accountability for how horribly he behaved. I was so shocked by the whole thing that I shook my head, said, “I don’t know how you sleep at night,” and left, very shaken.

In hindsight, this man basically treated me like a criminal for absolutely no reason (pretty insulting, BTW!) other than his own bias and poor behavior. Shame shame shame on him. Nobody deserves to be treated the way I was, and if you really think about it, it’s even worse that he mistook me for someone of lesser means. Like he could just harass, follow, and verbally assault them?!

This man has no business working at a place like the Y. Ladies especially, please be safe and avoid until this man is gone.
