Hinding has been servicing our HarTru tennis court for years. We wanted to make modifications to accommodate changing interests here and with the grandkids, so we worked with Tom Hinding to design a conversion of the HarTru court to an all-weather surface that includes a tennis court, two pickleball courts, and a basketball goal with key and three-point arc.
The work was performed in totally professional, friendly and flexible manner - we could not have been more pleased. Every team - from those who scraped and removed the old HarTru, to the asphalt layers, to the fence builders, and especially the painters - showed pride in their work as they created a final product that we are now very proud to show off to guests, and play on with family and friends.
Throughout the process, Tom was both consultant and advisor, as we made a few changes during the project (deciding to do two pickleball courts instead of one), and he scouted for good deals on equipment, such as the Dominator basketball goal and pickleball nets.
We have no doubt the investment has been a real value-enhancer for our property in the longer run, but for the foreseeable future, our family will certainly enjoy all our new court(s) have to offer. We strongly recommend Hinding for their skills, professional and reasonable conduct of business, and overall quality of the finished product.
The aerial photo included here was actually taken by Juan, one of the highly-skilled painting crew, upon finishing the project.

Resurfacing a tennis court is not an inexpensive proposition. Homeowner's cost for a project of this type can easily reach upwards of $20K+ depending on the work prescribed and the contractor estimating the job. For our project, we selected Hinding based on their reasonable scope of work and price (which was still over $10K).

Overall, their onsite teams did a good job -- first, of thoroughly cleaning the court, and subsequently of painting and lining the court per the contract. Hinding team members were polite and professional throughout the project. In both Phases of the project I complemented the teams and communicated this to the Hinding management.

On the 'cons' side of the ledger:

1) Communication -- primarily with their Sales & Operations Director. We never got notified when the project would start specifically (beyond the broad parameters of 'late May to early June'). One day, they just showed up. No call, text or email to give us a heads-up.

We also made numerous calls and emails to simply get a written contract, mainly to outline what was being warrantied and for how long. We ultimately got one, but why was I working so hard to get something that should be SOP.

2) Attention to Detail & Follow-Through -- at the completion of the final team's work (Line Painting), I noticed that there was some white line paint dripped in several spots on the newly painted playing portion of the court. This was just after the team left my property of course. I took some pictures and sent an email to the S&P Director asking for this minor issue to be addressed. No response. We made our final payment (50%) to Hinding a day after the work was completed per our contract and agreement. In hindsight, this was probably a mistake given that we had this minor 'dripped paint' problem, but I assumed Hinding would take care of the problem. That was on June 5. As of this date (June 27) the problem remains. I have sent several emails. I have spoken to the S&P Director several times about it. They have promised that it would be taken care of, but thus far no action. And now, no proactive communication response from Hinding.

This is a classic case of doing a great job on the big things, and then screwing-up on the details -- to the point that they turn a satisfied customer into a dissatisfied one. Why would a company to that? Once they cashed their final check, this project was DONE. I should have known better!

Let the future prospective customer beware.

I contracted Tom Hinding on a Tuesday to construct a new artificial grass court where an old asphalt court had been. He started the next day! His construction foreman, Jeff, was a perfectionist and did a fabulous job preparing the surface for the turf. His turf installers are the best in the business. Tom himself was always responsive and charming. He also hooked me up with a great fence company. I'm going to have him install lights too.
I am absolutely delighted with the court! I had wanted a Hartru court but Tom suggested artificial turf and arranged for me to play on a court he built for another customer. It's soft like Hartru with none of the maintenance.

1 star because of alleged illegal dumping in the community I live.

Mount Vernon Man Caught Illegally Dumping
Police caught a Mount Vernon resident illegally dumping in public parking lot #17 on Thursday.

Mount Vernon Police ticketed Ruben Cruz, 57, of 111 N. Third Ave., after a police officer observed him dumping asphalt and debris in municipal parking lot #17 near 110 Crary Ave.

Cruz was accused of littering and police issued Cruz an appearance ticket at the Mount Vernon City Court on July 15 at 9 a.m.

“No one will dump on Mount Vernon on my watch,” said Mayor Richard Thomas, who has spent years trying to get the illegally dumped debris at Memorial Field cleaned up. “This summons should serve as a warning to anyone who thinks they can freely abandon trash in Mount Vernon.”

According to the Mount Vernon City Code, any person violating any provision of the City’s littering ordinance shall be punishable by a fine of not less than $250 nor more than $2,500.

At the time he was ticketed, Cruz was driving a truck marked with Hinding Tennis Courts’ signage. Hinding Tennis Courts is a company in West Haven, Connecticut that specializes in sports field construction, including tennis and basketball courts.
