Warning: Crooked Company Alert: I want to discuss my personal experience with the Callaway water Department. During our year living in Callaway, we were shocked by their exorbitant water prices. Recently, I discovered a collection account on my credit report, prompting me to contact the company. Surprisingly, they disclosed private information via email without properly verifying my identity, violating privacy laws like the Gramm-Leach-Bailey Act and Florida’s Information Protection Law. Upon reviewing the bills provided, I noticed discrepancies in the readings and service periods, showing inaccuracies.

Example:
1. The prior reading on 8/1/2021 was 0 gallons, but on the following day, 8/2/2021, it jumped to 167,920 gallons, equivalent to roughly filling 3,358 standard-sized bathtubs.

2. Given that the service period concludes on April 30, 2022, the reading taken on April 4, 2022, precedes the end of the service period.

3. The reading before was taken on May 5th, and the service period began on June 1st.

I'm confident that if you review your bills, you'll uncover similar discrepancies to those I've highlighted. I've only provided a few examples, but there are numerous others I've come across. This company engages in immoral practices, including price gouging, and demonstrates a disregard for privacy by freely sharing your personal information with anyone

⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️To the residents of Callaway and paying customers of the City of Callaway’s Water Department:

My family and I resided at the City of Callaway for approximately a year. During the year, we noticed unusual high bills from the water department. I identified several concerning issues including irregularities in meter readings and billing practices. Despite my efforts to address these billing errors with the City of Callaway, their response has been lacking, resorting instead to involving their legal counsel. This lack of response is deeply troubling. It is unacceptable that such practices have persisted unchecked for so long. It is evident that the City of Callaway's negligence and unethical practices are contributing to numerous water shut-offs. If you reside in Callaway and have unusual high water bills, look over them! I was told I was reading the bills wrong! However, evidence suggests otherwise!

COC left a possible leak tag on our door. Once we located the leak and fixed it ourselves. We were advised to fill out a leak adjustment form, along with photos to get an adjustment. That was no problem...but after the adjustment we got a $2800 bill stating we used 171,000 gallons of water in one month ? and was only credited a partial credit of $125 on the paper bill we received. Then when we called and got an additional adjustment of $875, but still told us that regardless that the water never entered the sewage lines, we were still responsible for the sewage charge of $1,100, plus the water that was leaked into our yard. Then shut our water off and told us to get the water turned back on we had to pay $470 up front and still owe them $1300! This is for ONLY ONE month of water and sewage, plus fees for a household of two people. To which the our average monthly bill is around $115. Why they couldn't go back and see the average cost of water/sewage usage to adjust the bill to, is ridiculous and shady. We will be requesting to disconnect the water meter to have a well put in. FYI, for anyone wondering the average cost for a well installation and no monthly water bill is $3000 for a deep well. Totally worth the investment!

Horrible. They were not that busy today and still left my water off for the rest of the night. I paid my bill at 12:30pm. They close at 5:00pm. They had plenty of time. Thanks for the "should have paid it on time" attitude - I hope similar stuff happens to you all in 2024 ❤️
