Had an incredible first-time experience this morning at Athens Health & Fitness with Holly! She’s an INCREDIBLE personal trainer/nutritionist - so knowledgeable, cheerful, understanding, and really listens to what YOUR body needs and directs you from there.

The yoga class Holly taught was personalized and rejuvenating. Front desk staff were so accommodating, clear, & kind.

Truly was a great first experience with them!
Can’t wait to come back.

I usually am not one to leave reviews of any sort. Especially bad ones. BUT I was a member of this gym for I would say 3-4 months before I noticed that I was just not interested in going to a gym rather working out from home. I canceled my membership online and stopped paying at that point because why would I pay for a membership I don’t do anything for? Meanwhile, I’m living my life as one should and back in November (didn’t even notice up until recently) the gym decided to try and charge me $180.00 for my membership. Mind you, my membership was $25.00 a month. I continued to live my life and I get a call a few weeks ago from some guy saying that if I don’t give them $500.00 they’re attorney was going to “sue” me. I ignore it thinking this was a scam because I’ve never ever had this issue before with the gyms I’ve been to before. So fast forward to 2 weeks later, he calls me again saying the same thing and when I tried to tell him I canceled and shouldn’t have to pay he interrupted me and said “I’m not playing this stupid game, you know what you did and it’s time to pay up”. At this point, I’m like okay, I’ve done something to get my membership messed up so I had a payment arrangement set up. THEN I called the gym itself to see why I owed $500.00 and they proceeded to tell me it was only the $180.00 that I was late on when I only “closed” my account. That my membership had not been canceled but closed. When I signed up for this gym it never stated anything online that I had to come in and sign a piece of paper stating that I won’t be going there I received not one, not two, BUT THREE phone calls today from this man stating that I was “playing games” and threatening that an attorney would serve me at my place of work.

Firstly, this is severely disrespectful and unprofessional on this man’s end. And I’ve read other reviews at this point and this is not the first time he’s acted like this toward other people. Quite frankly, if he doesn’t like people, he shouldn’t work in a SERVICE POSITION and he should be fired.

Secondly, a gym is something that should not be a commitment as far as money goes because you never know what someone’s financial situation can be or turn into.

Thirdly, if it comes to this extent over a $25 GYM MEMBERSHIP, I’ll happily get an attorney and sue for harassment, false statements, threats, and I’ll be sure to get the money back from the attorney I hire.

Games can be played and this is not one of them. I will never return to this gym again as this has been the most difficult and unprofessional experience I’ve ever had.

Lastly, I did not catch the name of the kind guy I spoke with on the phone but he was very nice and helpful to me figuring out how much I actually owed. 🙂

I work out often with a friend and truly it is as far as size has plenty of space. every machine or piece of equipment I can think of is available. We have a great time working out there. The music caters to everyone that comes; varying in age and experience (I’m definitely a novice) On a sour note the cleanliness of the gym itself offers little comfort. Not to say sharing a public space doesn’t come with , give and take however I’m hoping not to take home anyone else’s hair. I can say this gym is an amazing place to go workout and hang with my friend. It’s a challenge to overlook the showers and hair from a week ago or the carpet in the women’s gym collecting hair. I believe this experience can changed. there are some things that I understand come with a sharing a public space. With a shared idea of the right direction regarding the potential here, I can see me continuing to workout here. I am very thankful to all staff and to my friend for bringing me along with her to work out. I do enjoy Athens Fitness and for improved regard to cleanliness and upkeep. (PS I’m willing to lend two hands)

I’ve been going to this gym for a few years. I was a member when it was called Omni, but cancelled my membership after a year because it was too expensive. After about a year, Crunch opened, so I joined it because it was cheaper and people hadn’t really caught on to it yet. Well, tons of people left Athens Health and Fitness to go to Crunch, so the crowd was now unbearable. So I left Crunch to go back to Athens Health and Fitness because AHF had now lowered the monthly rate to be competitive with Crunch. That lost in revenue, while trying to maintain the amenities is what I think contributed to what many guests complain about. Since rejoining AHF, the service and quality of the experience has declined. The gym has GREAT equipment and a ton of options (I would actually rate the equipment 4.5 out of 5), but the cleanliness and maintenance of the overall facility brings my overall rating down to 2 out of 5. The men’s locker room is blazing in the warmer months, the showers have been being retiled for almost a year and a half, and the staff fails to perform basic actions to make the place presentable for guests. I often work out in the morning when the gym first opens. On numerous occasions I’ve walked into the locker room and it appears it hasn’t been cleaned since 8am the day before. The staff opening or closing the facility should pick up any trash or towels laying around. I’m sure maintaining the facility is expensive, but a lot of the things people complain about can be addressed from simple ongoing upkeep. Please get all six showers operational in the men’s locker room. There’s constantly a wait in the mornings when there is a rush of guys trying to get ready for the day. It’s also tragic that the steam room is no longer working. That’s one of the things that made this gym stand out. Overall, I do think this gym could be the best in Athens, but the staff don’t treat it like it is.

Had to cancel my gym membership because I will no longer be living in Athens. Spoke with a “manager” there and she told me she would take care of the cancellation for me. (This was back in July) I get a phone call today from an “attorney” stating that they will take me to court cause I have not paid them. Come to find out I owe them $400 for the remainder of the year. When I informed him that the manager said she canceled my membership he got sassy and told me the only way I could cancel was if I were to have relocated. I told him that was my reasoning and he stated I would have had to give them my new address and sent a 30 day letter. Which I was told nothing about. I would have done all of this if I was informed.

Edit:
McGuire has emailed me and is investigating the situation. I greatly appreciate it. And great customer service on their part.

They made sure my membership was cancelled but did not offer a refund. So I paid for about half a year of a membership that I did not use. Nice

Wasn't that bad of a gym for $9.95 a month. Been with them since they were Omni and out of no where they hit me with a $21.95 charge per month. At the time I wasn't going here and hadn't gone in several months due to relocating for work. I never once got an email from them stating there would be a change In price. I mean if you're going to charge a 130% more you'd think they would fix their problems as the place has really gone down hill. I had to put a stop payment and dispute things with my credit card company just to put a stop to things!! Real greedy company!!

Pretty good variety of equipment, almost all of it is in poor condition. There’s a god awful beeping sound coming from the cardio machine wall that they didn’t fix for a month so I cancelled. Overall not an awful gym though
