During a recent visit to care for my father, who was recovering from surgery, my family and I decided to spend a day at the beach. We had been looking forward to this outing for months. While my daughter, who is only six years old, was enjoying the day, she suddenly needed to use the restroom.

As members of a private club in San Diego, we are accustomed to the understanding that children, especially in emergencies, are allowed to use the facilities. So, when we entered and politely asked Chrissy if my daughter could quickly use the restroom, I was taken aback by the response. The front desk lady was quite unfriendly and immediately refused our request. I tried to explain that it was an urgent situation and that my daughter would be quick, but she remained unmoved. I even expressed concern about the possibility of an accident, given that we were headed to dinner afterward with no change of clothes for her. Still, the answer was a firm "no."

Sadly, my fears were realized, and my daughter had an accident. We were fortunate to have a swimsuit in the car, but the situation was heartbreaking. When I returned to inform the front desk lady of what had happened, she showed no empathy. I asked if she could apologize to my little girl, which she only did reluctantly after some insistence. Another staff member, who was ending her shift, did express her apologies, explaining that it was simply the policy. While I understand the importance of rules, I was deeply disappointed that there was no flexibility for a young child in need.

Due to this unfortunate incident, we were unable to have dinner with my father, who had limited time before his procedure. I share this experience in the hope that the staff and management of this private club might consider a more compassionate approach in the future. Allowing a small child to use the restroom in an emergency would be a simple act of kindness. A friendly staff member could have easily escorted us to the restroom and then back out, which would have been a much more considerate solution.

In our family, we believe in forgiveness, so to the private club, we forgive you. However, we hope that in the future, situations like this will be handled with more understanding and empathy.
