Great place to shoot with awesome range staff. They are very helpful and willing to give great advice. They make sure you are safe while shooting and super polite. Love this place!

A bit out of the way, but the staff are very safety conscious and knowledgeable. The staff offer pointers if there are not a lot of people, but one can also ask for recommendations pertaining to shooting.
NO ammo sales or gun/rifle rentals.
First target paper is free. The club offers a day fee or one can purchase an annual members pass.
Kids are welcome as long as they can wear ear and eye protection.

The RSO's are very knowledgeable and courteous. I've been shooting here for a couple months now and have purchased the membership, which I have no regrets about. This is my range of choice in all of San Diego.

I have been to SBRGC for 3+ years, and unfortunately I have noticed a pattern of hostility from almost half of the volunteering range officers who seem to take their roles too far. I do not write reviews for businesses even if i think service was terrible, but that “Lead” RSO for the last Friday of August took it way too far, and I am positive I will not be the only customer complaining. We always act respectful and friendly when we visit this club, adhering to the safety rules all the time, but Id say about 30%-40% of my time at SBRGC ive had unfriendly and hostile encounters with the RSO’s, with an overwhelming feeling of judgment and tension from these volunteers. Every volunteer range safety officer seems to have their own different judgments and critiques on the types of targets you will bring. Most of them concluding to different made up “rules” not allowing you to enjoy your shooting for the day. With ridiculous and made up scenarios in their head about how ricochet works. I understand safety is a concern when dealing with steel targets, but the overwhelming feeling of hostility and made up rules and outcomes by them, is just not necessary or SAFE. Another disappointment is arriving to the range expecting the range you need to be open like it states it in the calendar; only to find out you wont be able to shoot because its being used by a private party or just “closed” for the day even though the calendar stated it will be free and open. On SEVERAL occasions i have witnessed other customers leave in disappointment because of this hostile environment. I have brought family members who can also attest to this behavior. Half of Those range “saftey” officers need an attitude check by the owner ASAP. They are affecting their business, and all because of “ego” not in the name of safety.

I go to Sothbay Rod and Gun Club atleast 1-2 times a month.

I'm an Army Veteran of 11 years.

I went to SBRGC last Friday, 8/30/2024 to shoot at Range 6 with a buddy like we always do minding our own business and respecting the rules.

I always say hello and good bye to the RSO's and thanking them for what they do out of respect

The main Range officer at range 6 just looks at me and my buddy.

After signing in, I felt as if I was being watched by the lead Range Officer who's name I didn't get. I walked to the bathroom and when I got out walking towards the stairs he continues to stare at me.

Because of the energy he was displaying we chose to go the range 2. While driving to Range 2 I asked my buddy what did he think about that 1 Range officer at range 6 and he said the same thing.

As we got set up on Range 2 and started shooting, that same Range officer showed up and once again I asked how he was doing and once again no response just an energetic look back at me.

It was like he was looking to call us out on something but everything was being done in a safe manner and professional manner.

I've been a member about 5 years. A guy like this should not be in a position like this if he acts and treats people in that way.

Really good range with good staff. Can be very crowded and tons of range events can make it hard to find a spot to shoot. Just make sure you check their schedule.

I have been enjoying this range for over a year now. The staff and facilities are perfect for being so far away from the city and people. Have fun while being out here and listen to all the Range safety officers. They will be fair but stern when educating you of the rules. Bring cash, as it is easier and quicker to pay. There is no ATM on site.
