Joe has been essential component and ally in my tennis adventure over the past 7 months.

As a coach, his knowledge and fundamentals are top notch. He challenges me physically and mentally to ensure that I am choosing the correct hit selection and working on the execution. I come away from every lesson feeling that I've learned something and have pushed my limits further than before. Most importantly, I enjoy every moment of my lessons and interactions with Joe.

Joe's influence and actions don't just start and stop with the lesson. The attention that he gives truly illustrates his passion for coaching and giving back to his students. From finding hitting partners or developing practice plans (homework), Joe strives to give his students the tools necessary to be successful in all avenues of their tennis game.

Joe has been an amazing tennis instructor during the year plus experience with him. He is able to amp up anyone's game and takes into account the small details that can make your swing something extraordinary. Whether you start with essentially no experience, like I did, or are looking for that next step to improve your existing skills, you can benefit from his instruction. I highly recommend!

My son Ben has been taking tennis clinics from Joe for about a year now. Joe is great at making learning and growing your tennis game fun. He customizes your learning by offering personal strategies based on what he is seeing could improve your game. He goes the extra mile to set up the right opportunities to learn based on what would help each individual player move forward. He is always positive and encouraging.

In 9 months with Joe, I've gone from a guy with a racket to a legitimate tennis player. He has really helped me tap into some of my potential. He does an excellent job of allowing you the chance to truly understand the "why" behind the fundamentals.

Joe Ballard Tennis

I found Coach Joe Ballard’s 2020 Tennis Camp to be a unique 5 Star out of 5 tennis camp.

I am the parent of two tennis-playing boys. The oldest is a 19-year-old, currently playing tennis on the American River College team. My youngest boy, Declan, is 15, and played on Placer HS this past Spring before everything shut down. He attended Joe Ballard’s Junior Tennis Camp.
I was attracted to Joe Ballard’s camp because of its basic three-level structure. Level I, from 9:00 am to 10:30, was designated basically beginning/budding tennis players. Level 2, which ran from 10:30 am to 12:00, was designed for slightly more skilled players that already had some high school tennis team exposure. The Level 3 group met from 12:00 am to 2:00 pm and was designed for players that desired to play for their varsity high school team.

Before camp started, I was asked by Coach Joe where I thought Declan fit into this structure. I struggled with an appropriate response since Declan was a playing member of the Placer HS varsity as a freshman, but I realized that Placer was a Division III school and not considered in the same class as a Division I school such as Rocklin.

Coach Joe suggested Declan join the summer camp at the Level 2, with Coach Joe telling me that if Declan’s play during the first two weeks merited a change, that Declan would be welcomed into the Level 3 group.
After Declan played for about a week (of the 5-week program), Coach Joe suggested that Declan would benefit from some personal tennis lessons. This turned out to be one of my best tennis expenditures. Declan made an immediate connection to Coach Joe and his instructive style and Declan’s game turned a corner. Making a long story a bit shorter, within a week, Coach Joe told Declan and me separately that Declan was being moved up to the Level 3 group.

In the meantime, Declan continued with his series of 5 lessons and improved many aspects of his game. In my humble opinion, Declan clearly held his own with respect to his play against some rather talented and athletic boys and girls.

Another feature that that enjoyed about Coach Joe’s camp was that virtually every Friday was designated as Tournament Day for those that wished to participate (this tournament day was a freebie, since the paid camp session ran Monday through Thursday). The children, both boys and girls, got into this in a fun competitive way. New friends were made, especially when Coach Joe set up four person teams for the final Friday team championship.

I have had my two boys attend many Junior tennis camps over their tennis years. However, I can readily say that Coach Joe’s camp was one of the best ever. Coach Joe has an easy outgoing manner that bodes well his instruction lessons and a fun camp atmosphere.
